PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It's official - MCKC HAS SECURED THE WEEKEND IN JUNE 2010 BEFORE THE OKLAHOMA CITY CLUSTER FOR OUR SHOWS!!  We will be the start of a HUGE circuit that spans one month:  Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston.  And we will be back at the Fair Grounds in our old building now called the QuikTrip Center.  There are still a few things to be worked out but the date and the building have been secured.  I think we all feel we can once again spread out in one of the best show sites in the country and once again have unlimited vendors, unlimited grooming space, unlimited RV parking by the building, again be able to offer Agility, and once again our entry will grow instead of decline.  It will take lots of workers but with our membership beginning to grow with active exhibitors I think the Club is in the best position to achieve these goals that we have been in for years!  I have to thank MCKC member Darlene Davis for calling me from shows in Texas several months ago after hearing a rumor that this weekend in June was becoming available.  Thanks to her phone call we were able to get this weekend before the people at Onofrio even knew it was open!

Since we will only be holding our April 12th show in Grove this year we need to have some other Club activities in 2009.  We have been asked to hold a Canine Good Citizens Test in conjunction with the Owasso Humane Society and VCA Owasso Animal Medical Center during Owasso's Trail Days Saturday, May 9th.  Last year the Humane Society held an open house and had 300 people attend so this event could be HUGE.  Charles & Phyllis Simmons will be coordinating this event so if you'd like to help out please contact them at 622-1691.

We would also like to hold a B Match sometime this fall.  We need someone to head up a B Match Committee so if you could help out please contact me!!

And a BIG CONGRATUALTIONS TO MCKC MEMBERS BONNIE BERNEY & HELGA KAMP - THEIR SHAR PEI CH CHAOYANG'S CHICK MAGNET AT ASIA WENT BEST IN SHOW AT SAN ANTONIO!

March Membership Meeting Minutes – March 10, 2009 – Hardesty Library

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 by president Karen Gibson.  The minutes from the January meeting were read and a correction was made to Charles Simmons name.  The minutes were then approved.

Karen read a thank you card from OSU Vet school student Alicia Davis.  She was the recipient of a grooming table from the MCKC membership presented to her at the awards dinner.

At the March board meeting, members Jana Davis and Marcia Harvey were approved as lifetime members.

The club had previously voted to donate $500 to the new dog park in Tulsa.  The donation was never made and Karen will research how to donate to the newest dog park to be opened in Hunter Park.

Karen received a request from VCA Animal Hospital in Owasso for MCKC members to give Canine Good Citizens tests on May 9th at their open house.  This will be in conjunction with the Owasso Trail Days.  Phyllis and Charles Simmons and Deby Harber volunteered to attend.  If anyone is interested in helping please contact Charles.

HB1332 – The bill has passed the house.  Karen asked for a club member to volunteer to head a committee on legislation.

The spring MCKC show will be April 12th in Grove.  Lori Finlayson is show chair.  If anyone is available to steward, please contact Karen Gibson.

Show news –  After learning of open show dates in June 2010 from Darlene Davis, Karen has secured June 26 & 27, 2010 for the MCKC shows.  This will be the weekend before the OKC cluster.  It was suggested that MCKC sponsor an ice cream social at the OKC shows in 2009 to promote our shows next year.   Plans will be worked out to still continue the kids Art Show at the Dog Show.  Karen has asked Sharon Casey to chair an agility trial in conjunction with the 2010 show.

MCKC will have a B match later in the year.

Treasurer’s Report – Checking-$10,458.01, agility checking-$754.92, CD’s $17,347.93 and $11,480.68.

Membership – Membership chair Charles Simmons read an application for Mike and Donna Bennett.  They will be voted on at the next meeting.  A vote was taken for new applicant Janine Winings and she was voted in as a new MCKC member.

Lori Finlayson suggested the club investigate sponsoring a Junior Handler Scholarship to assist juniors in offsetting expenses to Eukanuba or Westminster.  Lori will work up a proposal and present it to the membership.

Following brags, the meeting was adjourned.

Deby Harber
